Strong Bad People Episode 1: Home Star Ruiner
For the average gamer, there isn’t a huge amount of appeal to point-and-click adventures. Less so when said adventure is about an egomaniac in a lucha libre mask who types in boxing gloves. But if you’ve ever been part of the cult-following of HomestarRunner.com, the Chapman brother’s Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People: Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner is worth your money… and syllables.

Aside from adorable graphics, pleasant music and decent sound effects, this game is nothing more than yet another twist on Bejeweled. The background music is pleasant, not very noticeable, and the sound effects include squishing and splooshing noises which complement the cute graphics very well.

Dale Hardshovel is not a character from a late-night film on cable. The game bearing his questionable name is the latest offering by Phime Studios. This archeologist is on a mission to collect the pieces of the Bloomstone, and to do that he needs to solve matching puzzles while contending with gravity at the same time. Borrowing heavily from Taito’s Puzznic (released in 1989), Dale Hardshovel offers nothing new except a stiff learning curve that only the most patient and easily-amused gamers will be willing to put up with.

Crumb is a game meant for young girls who still believe in fairy tales and happily ever after. In fairy tale fashion, the game begins with a princess in trouble. It is a family oriented game but much of the story might have to be read aloud to younger children.

Without a corporate bureaucracy holding them back, the studios responsible for these games have free reign to do things that larger game studios would deem too risky or unpopular. Sometimes this free reign is misused, resulting in the same uninspiring junk larger companies would force upon us. Bit Blot has used this power wisely to make Aquaria, a gorgeous game that tells a compelling story.

Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble is an innovative puzzle game set in a school for girls during the 1920s. In the game, you take part in a series of mini-games designed to help you increase your skills so that you will be able to solve the various mysteries and puzzles that surround the school. Although Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble is clearly geared to be most appealing to teenage girls, there are elements of the game that will appeal to gamers of both genders and of all ages.

If you love Bejeweled, you will love Puzzle Hero even more. In this game, you have to swap items so that three items with two swords are besides one another in a row or a column to enable a girl to attack a monster.

Under the guise of a storyline about ancient Egypt, Saqqarah by Codeminion is a basic game of line up the symbols in rows of at least three to eliminate them and eventually meet the goal. On the surface this would appear to be just a rehash of an old game, which it is, but what it may lack in new concept, the game makes up for in graphics and addictive fun.
