IonFX brings a fresh approach with the game Obulis. In the game you progress through levels by completing the puzzle for each one. In Obulis it`s the type of puzzles that makes it stand apart from other games of this type. The object of each puzzle is to get colored balls into their corresponding urns of the same color. There are also balls that have no color but they also play a part in getting things where they are suppose to go.

Each level is different with varying methods of propelling the balls into their urns. Some balls are attached to one or two chains. Chains can be cut to allow the ball to drop or to swing on any chain that is still attached. Thus cutting the remaining chain will send the ball flying. On some boards there are catapult like devices that can be released when a ball is in them providing another method to move balls around the board. Paddlewheels of sorts are employed as well to help you move things along. The levels consist of a board with different configurations of platforms both moving and stationary along with the balls, urns and methods of propulsion such as the chains. The trick is to initiate the movement of each piece on the level so that everything falls into place just right. It makes for one intriguing challenge after another and shows some nice creativity and innovation in the design of each one.

The graphics shine in the Asian themed setting of tranquil waterfalls and peaceful forest scenes. They are soft and soothing and go along well with the game play which is also smooth and precise. The background music also helps create a nice environment to solve these puzzles in and never too loud or annoying. In fact it did just what background music should do. Blend in and subtly enhance the game.

I gave Obulis from IonFX a 4/5 rating. The game was fun an entertaining to play with a very relaxed feel. Relaxed that is until you are really trying to get your timing right. The only thing it lacked to me is the ability to become a classic hence the less than perfect rating. But I would recommend this game to fans of puzzlers and it holds it’s own among the other downloadable computer games out there. I would definitely be inclined to pay for the full version after taking the demo to it`s limit.
