Under the guise of a storyline about ancient Egypt, Saqqarah by Codeminion is a basic game of line up the symbols in rows of at least three to eliminate them and eventually meet the goal. On the surface this would appear to be just a rehash of an old game, which it is, but what it may lack in new concept, the game makes up for in graphics and addictive fun.

The game catches the attention of the player instantly with an intriguing storyline decorated with colorful graphics. It plays up all the stereotypical ancient Egypt symbols of tombs and pharaohs, but it is successful. It creates an environment that makes the player want to enter the realm and see what the game has to offer.

Sound elements add to playing the game ranging from the monkey guide to the sounds made when connecting several symbols or jewels in a row.

One of the most positive elements of the game is its player friendly hints and tutorials. This game is not difficult to play as a newbie because it assists throughout the game. Its strength is the visible and audible assistance that are given during playing. The game does not just make the player figure everything out along the way. Instead it gives valid commentary and explanations that make the game easy to follow.

Despite the rehashing of an old concept, Saqqarah is fun to play. The 60 minute free play went by very quickly. The goals and levels were achievable so it made the player want to move on to the next level to see what would come next.

This is a good family game that can be played by all ages. Even younger children can complete the color match up segment of the game and yet it has enough challenge to appeal to adults too.
This is a game that is strictly light entertainment and perhaps not what a serious gamer would be into playing, but for families this would be a fun game worth purchasing. It is a game that can be played in small increments if desired, so it doesn’t have to require long commitments of time in order to play.

I rate this game 4/5. The only reason for knocking off a point is because the game concept is not new. I rate the game high in the areas of graphics, sound and game play as well as an extra point for being a family friendly game.
