When I first started playing Empire of the Gods, I got excited because of the title. It is an incredibly catchy title that really makes you feel like you’re going to be building an empire for the Gods. Unfortunately, the name is slightly deceiving. Sure, you’re building an empire for the Gods, but the only thing you are responsible for are the single monuments in each town. The name can be a bit deceiving for those hoping for a more hands on type of game.

Despite that, though, the game play is very straight forward and easy to understand. You just click and click and click. For the first few clicks, you don’t realize what you’re doing because it doesn’t give directions when starting; however, you quickly realize that you need to get this much of this so that you can get this much of that to build the monument. Overall, the game play is fun, relaxing, and easy going which is definitely something we want when playing a puzzle game.
The sound in this game is absolutely brilliant. The music score for it is flawless and really makes you feel as if you are back in ancient Egypt. One of the nice things is that the music is soft and soothing which definitely helps when trying to figure out how much faith to spend or how much life to give. It really is a wonderfully created set of music for the game and I would argue probably the best part of the entire game.

For a simple puzzle game, the graphics are very nice. They are simple; however, the little energy balls’ that fly from, for example, life to faith is very nice and very fun to watch because, even when you know what’s happening, it still is a bit exciting. The town does look incredibly nice even though you have no control in the construction of it. However, seeing the monuments get built over time is a nice feature that definitely does add to the graphics of the game.
Creativity wise, the game was lacking. Since it was a click to get something’ type of game, there really was not all that much that the developers could do. Since every level is trying to build a monument and using the same methods to build that monument, it becomes very tedious very fast.

When it comes to innovation, I think that the game was lacking. It was a very simple puzzle game that required you to think three steps ahead which is nice for mind-boggling games; however, there is very little that is innovating about the game.

Overall, Empire of the Gods was a decent game. There were some nice perks and the music was lovely to listen to. Unfortunately, the game that sounded like a big “build, conquer, and do for the Gods” type of game really was just a click puzzle game that gave you points so that you could build monuments for the Gods. Is it worth it? If you like these puzzle games, it’s definitely worth purchasing. However, if you’re looking for something a bit more hands on, I don’t recommend purchasing it.
