If you like fast moving, physics based racing then AutoCross Racing is the game for you. It is not perfect but it stands right up there with the best entries into the arcade racing genre. Even though it took me awhile to master, this game is well worth the effort.
STORY
There is no story here but that fits the genre. Your goal is to through ten tracks continuously finish in the top three and move on to the next stage. With each level beat you get more money and with this you can buy up to twenty different cars. Each car has its own strengths so pay attention. You will be driving through mud, snow and basically any hazardous condition you can think of. Beat all the levels to win the championship!

GAMEPLAY
You can use either a joypad or your cursor for this game. For me the controls were hard to master. They are extremely sensitive and the slightest push of a button can have you spinning out in no time. You will need a light touch here.
You can control the camera view which is a huge plus. The default is a midrange overhead shot. You can see a map showing your position and upcoming turns in the lower right hand corner.
During the game there is a pit stop for when your car gets too injured to move as fast as it should. You can also use a boost button from time to time to get the jump on the opposition. Overall this is very fun to play. My only complaint here is that my car would get trashed from a few bumps while the enemy cars never get damaged at all!

GRAPHICS AND SOUND
This is where the game really shines. The graphics are well rendered and detailed. They are above average for this type of game.
But the sound is what stood out to me the most. This game is truly exceptional in this area. If you wait to hit return and start your game you can hear birds chirp, frogs hiccup, etc. It is touches like that which really pull one into the game.
The soundtrack is pure techno, but not the repetitive kind that grows annoying. Right when you know where a song is going ti changes on you. It is unpredictable, pounding and full of depth.My favorite piece on the soundtrack was “My Fantasy”.

CONCLUSION
Ever see Tokyo Drift? This game is as close as you will come to living out the movie, at least form the comfort of your own home. The drifting element is hard to master at first but elevates the entire experience. The graphics and physics are very solid. The sounds and soundtrack are some of the best I have ever encountered. Overall if you are a fan of arcade racing you should not pass up AutoCross Racing.
