Review:

Zombie Shooter is a game which is not for those whose stomach turns at the mere thought of blood and gore. The game is essentially a third person shooter (controlled by mouse and keyboard) built around the concept of blasting the ‘living’ daylights out of zombies which come (in some cases) in literally endless swarms.

These zombies come in many shapes and forms from people to wolves, to rats to powerful bosses - each with the intent on killing you, the man/or woman (the choice is yours). You yourself have a choice of up to ten weapons at a time with which to dispatch the zombies. These range from dual pistols, to a shotgun, to a flamethrower and even a rocket launcher thus adding variety and choice to the game.

The menu is set out very nicely. It is easy to navigate, has an imposing but informative picture (which further hints as to the content of the game) and the graphics and sound quality do not disappoint in the slightest way. During the menus, the music played is deep, inspiring and energetic. This sets the scene and intensifies interest and curiosity in the game.

Beginning Zombie Shooter you are given a choice of three modes in which play. These consist of Campaign mode, Survival mode and Gun Stand mode.

Campaign - after choosing your character (man or woman) you set out on individual missions. These have limited storyline and background but are adequate for the nature of the game. You walk around, shooting zombies (which earns you experience) and picking up ammunition, health and money. At the end of each mission you can purchase items with your money. These include new weapons and improved armour. Once experience has increased a certain amount you’ll go up a level. This allows you to (at the end of each level) upgrade your characters statistics (e.g. maximum health).

Survival - this is a never-ending battle between you and swarms of zombies in a confined space. The object is to survive as long as possible. You begin with the most primitive weapon (dual pistols) and gun down zombies who gradually become faster, more powerful and harder to kill. Every so often a ‘boss’ zombie is thrown in. When killed, the boss drops for you a new weapon.

Gun Stand - you are in an incredibly powerful turret, surrounded by a wall with the occasional bomb at your disposal. The object is to gun down an endless swarm of zombies before they bring down the wall and subsequently you as well.

The graphics on Zombie Shooter are high quality for a downloadable game. Blood gushes are immense and good quality, covering the walls and floor in blood. Game play is smooth without glitches and there is very little to no sign of pixilation. Colours used are a potent combination of dark colours with the exception of bright red blood. This compliments the nature of the game perfectly.

In game play the sound effects are high quality (the rain very noticeably so) and there is an extraordinary depth to the sound. This greatly adds to the atmosphere.

In short, Zombie Shooter isn’t really all that creative (apart from possibly the weapons) and although graphics are innovative, many aspects of the game are lacking in innovation and originality.

I rate Zombie Shooter 3/5 and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good third person shooter who isn’t bothered by a lack of storyline. I would personally be inclined to buy this product.
