Rating 4/5 Balls
Balloon Bliss by Vortix Game Studio is a fascinating and engaging game. At the beginning, you create a child avatar for yourself, which can be personalized. You may change the hairstyle, hair color, face shape, clothing, clothing color and gender of your avatar. There are two types of game play; story and endless. In the endless mode, you simply pop groups of balloons which are the same color. In story mode, you encounter an old lady who is selling balloons, who sends you on a quest to learn about the legend of children who can fly. You must pop the groups of balloons in this mode, as well, but you have a limited time in which to do so.

As you progress through the levels of Balloon Bliss, you gain special items such as panic charges, coins, trophies, and special items which you can purchase in a “shop.” These items include white balloons which can explode entire vertical or horizontal rows of balloons, and other balloons which release coins or create explosions. You can also purchase more panic charges, which explode several balloons when they begin to pile up in the screen.

I found Balloon Bliss to be surprisingly easy at the beginning. It became more challenging on higher levels. My seven year-old son liked it better than I did, since the game seems to be geared primarily toward children. I wasn’t too crazy about the music in the first level. The music in the second level was somewhat better. There was an options screen which allowed me to turn down the volume all the way. You could also change the volume of the sound effects. The graphics were clear, bright and colorful.

Balloon Bliss is a little too easy for an adult, and a little too challenging for a young child. However, there are lots of cool power-ups, and the story mode does inspire curiosity. I found myself wanting to know about the legend of the children that can fly, and meet the forest people. I believe that this game has some really good points. In story mode, there are captions by the characters which encourage children to read. My son wanted to play the game the moment he saw it up on my computer screen. I think that most children would enjoy the fact that the early screens are easy, and be willing to work at their skills in later levels to progress in the story and earn coins, panic charges and shop items. I rate Balloon Bliss a 4/5; it’s a good game for children between the ages of 6 and 12, and a very nice game for parents to play along with their children.
