If you like Bejeweled then Cryptex of Time will blow your mind. This fast-paced game is all about matching gems by turning a series of 3D wheels. Get enough points to beat the Cryptex and you’ll be rewarded with the unlocking of the next level. Each new level brings a different kind of challenge as well as new items to help you along your way. The game play is captivating and the graphics are superb.

Game Play: 5/5
The game play was amazing. The puzzles were so much fun and they changed by levels. Not only were new items added, like orbs that would make certain rows explode, but the goal of each level changed along with the puzzles themselves. The variety was very refreshing when compared to similar games of today. I also really liked the fact that a lady helped you through the levels without giving too much away. That way you weren’t frustrated, but you still had to solve the puzzles yourself.
Graphics: 5/5
Cryptex pulls off the 3D look beautifully. Each level is rich with detail, even down to the lady who drops in to tell you what you’ll be doing next. The mouse cursor is designed to match the game as well. Everything ties together so nicely and can hold your attention for hours.

Sound: 3/5
I was slightly disappointed with the sound. The main music for the levels I got to play was a very sad sounding song. It was actually a bit depressing; I much prefer fast-paced games to have bouncy, cheerful music to accompany them. However, to make up for it, the sound effects were nice, and the winning music for each level was my personal favorite. That’s what motivated me to keep going.

Creativity and Innovation: 4/5
Though I can’t give this game a 5/5 since the concept of matching rows of jewels is nothing new, I do give it high marks for a new spin on an old concept. I have played a number of games like this, but this is my personal favorite. I believe it’s a combination of how the creators took the time to add in little details as well as the fact that they came up with new puzzles, along with new ways to play the old ones.
Overall I give this game a 4/5, and only because I was really disappointed with the music. That is a big part of my gaming experience. If you can look past that, however, this game is over the top. Not only did I enjoy it, but I would definitely invest money in a full version and wouldn’t have wasted a single cent.
