Yahoo Games Review by John Gray
If you’re looking for a website that has games with more longevity then maybe Yahoo Games is the site for you. The site is clearly aiming for gamers interested in classic puzzle and strategy games. Amongst the most frequent games played on the site includes Chess, Dominoes and Scrabble. Also included are Sims-style games such as Build-a-lot and Sally’s Salon.
What is a little annoying about this website is that the majority of games are playable only with a download or a full purchase, although they do give you the option to a trial period on most games, which is a fair offer.
There are a few simple games under the quick game selection that are playable without a download or a subscription to Yahoo, but it feels like these are only token gestures and the types of games of this sort offer little even to keep the short-gamer interested for very long.
The structure of the site is a little messy, it has to be said, and the assault of the advertising goes beyond the boundaries of background slogans and directly interferes with the set-up of the screen. It can be a little confusing at times where the actual site and the advertising ends as they appear merged into one flashing whole.
There are features such as the staff picks and video game trailers that offer something a little different, but in all honesty it is offered with little enthusiasm. There is a rating system on the games on the site but it is not immediately apparent where these actual ratings come from, whether from the public or from the site itself, and to be quite honest the site offers me little in which I want to stay around for much longer to find out. The advertising alone is enough to drive me away.
I’m sure that many people looking to save on trips out to the stores to purchase the latest Sims type of game will find this site useful, although with most games at $19.99 there is hardly much of a saving, but for me the site offers little of interest and I will look elsewhere for my gaming kicks.
